The Outlook for Mac experience, now available for preview in Insider Fast, has been updated to enhance performance and elevate productivity. The new Outlook for Mac is powered by the Microsoft Cloud and connects using Microsoft sync technology. It brings updates across Mail, Search, and Calendar exp. Only change the background on this computer. Go to File Options. Under Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office, pick an Office Background from the list.
If you are a heavy Microsoft Office user, you might want to experiment with different display themes and find which of them is more suitable for you in terms of contrast and brightness.
Office 2016 / 2019 / 365 ships with three built-in background themes: Colorful, Dark Gray , Black and White. All of them looks pretty well, and choosing among them is a matter of personal preference.
Following these steps in order to modify your Office background theme and colors:
- Open any Microsoft Office 2016 application – this can be Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher and obviously Outlook.
- Hit File.
- From the Navigation bar, select Account.
- Sign in to Microsoft by providing your login credentials (similar to the ones you might use for Outlook.com or OneDrive).
- Select a background and office theme.
- Your preferences are associated with your account and hence be visible in every device you'll use to access Office and Office 365.
I personally find the Dark Gray theme quite easy of the eye and use it happily since Office 2013 was first released.

If you want to change the view, do the following:
1. On the View tab, in the Current View group, click theView Settings button:

- Columns.. - Specify which columns (items of information) are included in the view (anotherway to customize columns see inAdd and remove columns in Outlook).For example, in the mail view:
- Group By.. - Define grouping for the displayed contacts based on one or more fields. Forexample, you could group contacts by company or subject (for more details seeGroup emails in Outlook view).
- Sort.. - Define how items are sorted. You could sort by received time, for example:
- Filter.. - Display only those items that meet your defined criteria.
- Other Settings.. - Specify fonts, grid lines, and other details of contact view layout:
- Conditional Formatting.. - Define special formatting that meet certain conditions such as anoverdue task or have been flagged (see alsoConditional formatting in Outlook).
- Format Columns.. - Define formatting for columns in the view:
